JULY 2025–JUNE 2026
I have long anticipated installing an exhibit of block prints—a favorite medium of mine and others—for your viewing pleasure.
Five different block types are represented in this intimate exhibit: linoleum, wood, cork, nail cut & reduction blocks.
Works by ten artists are shown, including a Swedish-American (Birger Sandzén), an Italian-American (Louis Monza), a French-American (Pierre Menager), a German-American (Werner Drewes), and a member of the Diné/Navajo nation (Leonard Thompson).
Leonard Thompson carved and printed his cork block in 1951 at age five; our reduction block printmaker (Leon Loughridge) has been cutting blocks for decades.
Prints range from black on white to hand-colored.
Titles include Madame Johns Legacy, The Growers of Hermosa, Timpas Creek, California Hills, and Reflections.
Leon Loughridge’s accordion book that demonstrates the astonishing reduction block print process, as well as Leonard Thompson’s cork block, are of special interest!
