Using Thordis’, your own, and others’ stories as springboards, and employing dialogue, writing, and creative visualization, we will explore four important themes:
celebrating your accomplishments
acknowledging your fears
honoring your intuition
defining and acting on your unfulfilled dreams
19, 20, & 21 October 2022
This program takes its name from an unpublished essay Thordis Niela Simonsen wrote in October 2012—almost 10 years ago to the day. It focusses on a hissing viper, a sacred precinct, and an undertaking that defied comprehension as much as it defied completion.
In an intriguing and inspiring forty-five-minute presentation with slides, Thordis Niela Simonsen reveals how a gentle yearning for an unremarkable studio/gallery/residence morphed into an intimate, but elegant museum of art & culture.
With curiosity, many of you have peered—literally and/or figuratively—through the windows under the sign MUSEUM OF AUTHENTICITY now mounted on the building at 124 E 2nd Street, Salida, Colorado. The Museum is thrilled beyond measure to finally welcome you in!
Please join founder/curator Thordis Niela Simonsen and featured artist, Bernice Strawn for an inaugural open house and artist reception at the Museum Friday 16 October, 3–7pm, Saturday 17 October, 10am–5pm, or Sunday 18 October, 11am–3pm.
Bernice will be at the Museum Friday 3–5pm, Saturday10–12am, and Sunday 11–12am.
The Museum of Authenticity Gatehouse opened to the public on 21 June 2018, the first day of Salida’s 26th annual Art Walk. The Museum opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting at 4:00 pm on Saturday, 23 June. The first exhibit, Dances in Two Worlds, opened for viewing, and the Museum Shop opened for purchases: books, graphic notecards, and prints. (Purchases can also be made at the Museum Shop on this website.)
The Museum of Authenticity Gatehouse is currently open for walk-ins and by appointment at 303.585.1783 and/or by email. If possible, please contact the Museum at least 24-hours in advance to insure that your inquiry is received in time. Welcome!
