Description
I created the original oil pastel painting #133 on 15 February 2008. When I finished painting what I ultimately understood to be my house in Elika, Greece, I was confronted by all the unfilled white space surrounding it. I liked how the house looked and was terrified that I would ruin the painting by continuing to work on it. Once I realized that the two olive trees near my house would be included in the picture, it took all my courage to lay down the first line.
My book Dancing Girl: Themes and Improvisations in a Greek Village Setting [available on this website] includes stories about my experience restoring the house and its history.
