Description
I made the original monotype print #172 on 2 December 2010. The shapes in the dark brown swath suggest mountains to me, and this is the first in an extended series of subsequent images I associate with the “Wyoming night sky” of my childhood. I began by applying droplets of oil to a dry plate; these created clear spots when the inked brayer rolled over them. I drew on the inked plate with mounting-board tabs to create the trees.
The story “Fireflies” in my book Dances in Two Worlds: A writer-Artist’s Backstory [available on this website] explains the significance of the Wyoming night sky image.
